Child food poverty in London
Due to lack of resources and money a child’s food intake can be severely disrupted and become insecure. Child food poverty is not only concerning for the health and natural growth of a child but also due to the emotional, psychological and social effects that follow on from it.
When it comes to food poverty in London the stats are alarming.
According to a recent Survey of Londoners, 400,000 children in the capital experience food insecurity (GLA, 2019).
16% of parents from households that are food insecure are unable to provide balanced meals for their children.
It is also reported that 9% of children said they did not always have enough to eat.
These figures are not only shocking but could be set to increase if food prices rise from the departure of the UK from the European Union.
At Binta’s Kitchen we have made pledge to end child food poverty in London. We partner with local charities to offer free healthy take away food boxes. The aim is to offer meals to children who could possibly go without and as well it being tasty and nutritious we also want to re-educate families on healthy meal choices and offer cookery classes.
